The Wire and other news companies in the Pegasus Project have confirmed that 2 mobile numbers belonging to Rahul Gandhi had been leaked. All of this was done during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. It has been found that 5 people who are very close to Rahul Gandhi, had their phones hacked by using pegasus software. However, it is not sure if the Pegasus Software hacked Rahul’s phone because he does not own those mobiles anymore and there is no way of checking.
Gandhi told The Wire that he had received suspicious WhatsApp messages in the past – one of the known vectors for a spyware hack – and frequently changed numbers and mobiles so as to make it “a little harder for them” to target him.

The numbers of Rahul’s two close aides, Alankar Sawai and Sachin Rao, were also leaked. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and former Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, Union Ministers Prahlad Patel & Ashwini Vaishnaw phone numbers were also leaked. The publication of the names on Monday evening set off a major political storm. At a press conference, the Congress demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and an investigation into the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in hacking of phones and number leakage.
